For the second consecutive year, UK commercial radio’s share growth has increased!
This blog is all about the biggest and brightest news in radio, so it would only be fitting, to share the fantastic information coming from the latest Advertising Association / WARC Expenditure Report.
The figures come off the back of a bumper year for commercial radio last year, which posted its highest ever total audience of almost 35.9 million people in Q2 2017, beating the previous record of 35.6 million set in Q2 2016 according to RAJAR, the audience measurement body.

Big changes have been implemented for Mobile Spotify freemium users this week.
Spotify has unveiled a new version of its mobile app that adds select on-demand features to its freemium tier. With the new version, users can listen on-demand to whatever song they want, as many times as they want, as long as those songs appear on one of the 15 personalized discovery playlists like Daily Mix, Discover Weekly, Release Radar or Today’s Top Hits.

Bauer’s Cash for Kids Superhero Day returns.
Cash for Kids is Bauer Radio’s network of local charities, which operate across 21 areas around the UK. Their mission is to respond to the needs of children in communities and aspire to enable all children to live life to the full and achieve their individual potential.
The Cash for Kids Superhero Day, broadcast on 22 Bauer radio stations across the UK, is making a comeback on May 4th.
Radio stations from Aire to Wave will be fundraising by asking supporters to dress up as a Superhero for one day and donate money. Collectively, Cash for Kids raised over £23 million in 2017, supporting more than 709,000 children.

Local Radio Day 2018 sees the return of some firm favourites.
Bridge FM, Swansea Bay Radio, Radio Carmarthenshire, Radio Pembrokeshire and Radio Ceredigion are back onboard for this year’s Local Radio Day.
Group Managing Director, Martin Mumford, said on confirming Nation Broadcasting’s involvement for a third successive year: “The Award-winning initiative Local Radio Day helps highlight to opinion formers the great work our local stations play in their respective areas for listeners and local businesses.”

Highlight of the Week:
The winners for one of those most sought-after awards in advertising, a D&AD Pencil, were announced last night.
Among the judging panel, who last night's winners may have to thank, was our very own Global Head of Audio Creative and Content, Kathleen Moroney, who was on the illustrious panel for the Radio & Audio category.
