Yes we should, because a record revenue for commercial radio has been unveiled this week, as it took £679 million in ad revenue in 2017, its highest ever figure! Obviously this is fantastic news for us and everyone working in commercial radio advertising.

This week began with a huge announcement from the research wizards Ebiquity, as they launched ‘Re-evaluating Media’, which they say is the most in-depth study ever on the value of different media.

Ebiquity presented to advertisers on how they should re-evaluate their use of traditional media such as radio, newspapers and magazines according to Ebiquity in light of their most recent research.

Global’s newest stations - Heart North Lancashire & Cumbria and Smooth Lake District, have just confirmed their presenters going forward.

Formerly The Bay, now Heart, will feature Danny Matthews remaining on Breakfast, Chris Kirk on Drive (and Saturday Breakfast) and Alex Cribb on Sunday at 12 pm.

Whereas, what was once Lakeland Radio has been renamed Smooth. John Pye has been selected to present Breakfast, Tim Littlechild will be on the Smooth Drive Home and Paul Jordan will host his own weekend show from 2-6pm every Saturday and Sunday.

Love Sport? Love Radio? Love DAB?

Well, Love Sport Radio has been doing a spot of tweeting on the Twittersphere of late, stating that it is getting ready to launch on DAB.

The tweets, so far, say the station unofficially launched on Monday 5th March at 6am but will launch ‘for real’ on Monday 19th March.

Smirnoff Equalizer

This week, the Soundbites blog would like to draw your attention to a new feature launched by Spotify & Smirnoff in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Spotify and Smirnoff have launched the “Smirnoff Equalizer”, a new tool that provides users with a breakdown of their listening habits in terms of gender.

For people who listen to more male artists than female, Spotify will create a more gender-balanced playlist.

According to a press release, the idea for the equaliser stems from the fact that there was a lack of female representation in Spotify's 2017 Year in Music statistics.

Only two female artists were featured in the top 10 songs and no women were found in the top 10 internationally streamed records.

It’s definitely a step in the right direction when it comes to music and raising awareness. Also, the equaliser is a pretty cool concept in terms of gender equality and expanding your musical tastes.
