The Bay and Lakeland Radio have taken a step in the Global direction.

Global has just acquired Lancaster-based The Bay and Kendal-based Lakeland Radio from CN Group.

The two stations are the only ones owned by CN, which once owned a handful of stations in the Midlands along with Citybeat in Belfast.

It’s not 100% confirmed what Global’s plans are for the stations, so we guess you’ll just have to stay tuned.

The progress of digital radio in Northern Ireland was celebrated at a special event, which took place as part of the Belfast Media Festival on Friday.

The highlight was a discussion of how local stations BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio Foyle, Downtown Radio, Downtown Country, Cool FM, and U105 are using digital platforms to reach new audiences, and outlining plans for on-going innovation and investment in digital radio.

Podcast of the Week:

As the whole nation excitedly awaits for the upcoming episode of Blue Planet 2, we decided this week to make readers aware that there is, in fact, a one-off Blue Planet Podcast.

Its behind-the-scenes diary approach is perfect for that post-episode gloom. It is hosted by Becky and Emily, two enthusiastic Blue Planet fan girls who happen to work in BBC radio, “just across the car park” from the show’s creators.

Taking advantage of their insider status, they attend the show’s premiere in London, corner veteran cameramen and probe some of the revelations about animal behaviour that the TV show is revealing. A must listen for any Blue Planet fan.

New episodes weekly, right after the show finishes on telly.
